About this project:

During the period 2009-2014 the Observatori de Política Exterior Europea (European Foreign Policy Observatory) published a groundbreaking book on the external action of the European Union entitled La Unión Europea en las Relaciones Internacionales (Tecnos 2014), edited by Esther Barbé and with the collaboration of the entire Observatori team. The work is divided into three main sections: institutions, processes and instruments; an analysis of the EU’s external relations; and the EU as an actor in global governance. With this book the group participated in the debate on the EU as an international actor and particularly concerning its capacities, its external role as a power and the consequences of the influence of its foreign policy. The group also published the book Entre la irrelevancia internacional y el aprendizaje institucional: La presidencia española de la Unión Europea (2010), which focused on the interaction between the EU and Spain’s foreign policy, particularly during the Spanish presidency of the EU in 2010.

The Many Faces of the European Union’s Influences on Ukraine: From State Identity to the Policy Paradigms of Energy, Migration and Foreign Policy’ (2010); and Benjamin Kienzle, ‘Ideas, Interests and the Limits of Collective Foreign Policy Output: The Case of the European Union Non-Proliferation Policy’ (2010). Two pre-doctoral fellows joined the group: Raül Hernández Sagrera and Martijn Vlaskamp.
