The news channel 3/24 interviewed a member of the Observatori and professor of International Relations Eduard Soler (UAB) to analyse the international context regarding the escalation of violence in the Middle East. Soler examines how positions that were previously marginal—such as Spain’s—are beginning to gain more support within a still-divided European Union. He illustrates this with the Council’s request to the Commission to review whether the association agreement with Israel can be maintained. The worsening humanitarian crisis and Netanyahu’s aggressive rhetoric are prompting a reassessment of existing positions. However, according to Soler, only a rupture in the relationship between Netanyahu and Trump, or a shift in public opinion within Israeli society, could put an end to the current destructive cycle.
