Observatori researchers Oriol Costa (co-IP1) (UAB/IBEI) and Patricia Garcia-Durán co-IP2) (UB) are to lead a new research project co-financed by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities and the European Commission, set to run for four years from September 2024.
Variously referred to as the “geopolitical turn”, a return to bi-polarity or the emergence of multipolarity, however defined, the international order is changing as new powers emerge. The project, titled A Contested EU In a Fragmenting International Order (COURAGE) aims to shed light on how the European Union reconsiders its role and adapts to this change as the international sphere is increasingly characterised by growing rivalries and the fragmentation of the Liberal International Order.
