A prominent roundtable event held in Barcelona on May 16 gathered international experts to discuss the ongoing transition towards a less stable international order. Co-organised by the Institute Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals (IBEI) and The Social Observatory – “la Caixa” Foundation, the event aimed to conduct a geopolitical analysis of the world’s changing dynamics.

With recent events like the Russian invasion of Ukraine and China’s escalating threats to Taiwan, global tensions have heightened, leading to a growing rivalry among major powers. The roundtable speakers examined the causes behind this transition and its implications for European security.

Participants included Observatori Lead Researcher Esther Barbé (UAB-IBEI), Adam Holesch (IBEI), Ilona Kałdońska (Consul General of the Republic of Poland), and Angela Kane (Nuclear Threat Initiative), with Observatori researcher Martijn Vlaskamp (IBEI) moderating the discussion.
