Several EU-NormCon researchers participated in the 11th EISA Pan-European Conference, organized between the 12th and the 16th of September in Barcelona. A large part of the papers were presented in two panels convened by the project.
In the panel ‘Normative contestation in Europe: Implications for the EU in a changing global order’, Patricia García-Duran (Universitat de Barcelona) presented the paper ‘The European Commission response to TTIP contestation’, cowritten with Leif Johan Eliasson (East Stroudsburg University), Oriol Costa contributed with ‘From norm promotion to norm regress? The contestation of EU foreign policy’ and Anna Herranz-Surrallés co-authored the paper ‘Party politics at the water’s edge. Politicisation of military operations in Europe’ presented in the panel by one of the other co-authors, Wolfgang Wagner (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam).
In the second panel on ‘EU foreign and security policy in a Contested World Order: Normative contestation within and beyond the European Union’, Esther Barbé (IBEI-UAB) contributed with the paper ‘Normative contestation regarding Women, Peace and Security Agenda: Emergent sovereigntism clashes with European values and policy paradigm’, Gemma Collantes Celador (Cranfield University) presented the paper ‘The EU, the ICC and a Lifetime of Normative Contestation’ whereas Martijn Vlaskamp (IBEI-Yale University) exposed his last research in ‘Transparency Requirements as a Threat to Sovereignty? How the Foreign Accountability Norm is Contested at Multilateral Institutions’. Finally, Marta Íñiguez de Heredia presented the paper ‘Banal contestation? EU’s peacebuilding approach and patterns of EU-Africa relations’.
